I have done up a Substrate Comparison chart in PDF Format, but unfortunately it's 2.02MB and therefore I can not attach it to the thread. If you are interested in a copy please email or pm me here and I will email a copy over.
It's a breakdown of all the minerals in the most common substrates available on the Market today. I could not get Hagen to release information on Stratum, but the major brands are compared; Fluorite, EcoComplete, Laterite... It's a nice good read for all those looking for a specific nutrient content in a substrate.

An interesting idea! I sent you a pm! Can't wait to see how badly I messed up my substrate...😆

Ah you are fine. Mineralized Soil would be good to add, but due to inconsistencies in the creation process, it would be hard to give a composition breakdown. Gabe, I emailed it, if you can find a way to attach it to this thread, it would be awesome.

Gary, convert the pdf to a jpg. You should be able to attach it then.

Not the same Lisa, but thanks for the idea. Maybe the Admins here can post it. They will be able to override the attachment setting.

Right in the settings, you can alter the file upload size. Just do it for the upload and return it to normal. If this were phpbb I would be easy to do! Either way, thanks!

Here it is, very nice breakdown of substrates: Substrate chart-.pdf (1.38 MB) Have you ever had a chance to examine ADA Aquasoil?

They are pretty tip lipped about it's content as well, but there might be a source online that has already done, no pun intended, the dirty work for me. I've been dying to get a composition of this.

Thanks for information! Ya I have searched around for an ADA breakdown but you are right they do seem not want to give that information out

Sure wish I had access to a Lab, but then I am guessing there would be some Legalities involved. I'm not going to jail over Substrate. LOL

I am setting up my 265 as a planted discus tank. Right now i have Florite red and my wife wants me to change it to black. Which substrate would you suggest, Eco-Complete or Florite?

Price wise the florite will be a tad cheaper. But I prefer the Eco Complete because it draws in nutrients as it ages and only gets better with time and will last the life on your fish tank. I found my planted tanks using Eco get better every year. Just my option as I like florite too and use it in different applications.
