Well it has been 2 weeks and a partial water change later. Moved all the offending egg eating fish out of the tank. The male has been sitting on these darker eggs for 4 -5 days and they will hatch soon. The surprise here, I learned in my information gathering, is the male will spawn with more than one female, even days apart. The top cluster is only 3 days old. Now to raise the fry, that's the hard part!!!

Interesting, the females will lay near the existing eggs, so the male can defend them all?

Interesting, the females will lay near the existing eggs, so the male can defend them all? Exactly Gabe. I saw the second female hovering near the male. She was almost on top of him and he didn't mind or attempt any aggression toward her. The next morning another pile of eggs were found above the first set. So in all about 80 eggs were laid in total.

Update on the fry! All the viable eggs have hatched and the fry are covering the upper portion of the tank. Counted 24ish fry but since they are really dark ,and so is the tank, makes finding them difficult. I have been adding grindal worms and micro worms but they tend to sink beyond where the fry hang out. Time to cross your fingers and wait.

Hopefully there's lots of food on the glass for them to eat until they figure out that the bottom of the tank is the best place to eat .

I am throwing everything I have at them right now, even put a leaf of lettuce in there. Hopefully a few of them figure it out soon.

So just a small update, the conditions for the parents seem to be adequate... another 50 eggs were freshly laid. The 24-36 fry are still alive and well inhabiting the tank with the parents. So I guess the extra food I have been throwing in there hasn't gone to the snails. I think I will need another tank or two to separate the male and females is in order.

This is great! Seems like you got some very prolific fish there.

Good job, these fish, are notoriously prolific so I believe eventually you'll be offloading these at the Society Meetings. Looks like a boon for everyone else as well.
In my world, when fish breed, you are doing something right. And from the sounds of it, the fry are pulling through wonderfully! What's the pH of the tank?

Windsor tap water is what I am using no additives and bare bottomed, very aged mopani wood (10 years old or better). Nothing fancy.
