Hi all, just a question to those out there running canister filters. Which do you think runs the quietest? I heard the fluvals are pretty good, so u went out and bought one a month ago. Ended up exchanging it because it was louder than it was supposed to be... set the new one up and it sounds pretty much the same. I though these things were supposed to run fairly silently. My hob filters run more quietly than this thing does, so I'm looking for advice on what direction to go or else i may just atixk with hob filters... Which isn't ideal.

Would the 4-series pro be just as quiet you think? It's going to be in an open area... have put doors on the stand yet or anything so it has to be quiet.

Okay, well I guess I'll give the filter a short break in period to see how things go. If it doesn't quiet down I'll front the extra cash for the eheim

They at times offer great deals on Eheim products and with exchange you can save a lot of money. Only downfall is if you order from their US site they won't ship to canada. You can use Detroitmailbox.com and ship it there and pick it up.

The Eheim canisters are very quiet with their ceramic shaft for the impeller. However, those shafts do wear down after a while and the impeller becomes misaligned, sometimes making noise. Have to replace the ceramic shaft at that time and all will be quiet again. My preferred canister is the Rena XP series. Fairly quiet with the stainless steel shaft for the impeller. You will be able to hear it when compared to the Eheim, but it moves way more water, and if you have it in a cabinet, no issue I have not tried the newer Fluval series, but my past experiences with previous series of Fluval canisters have not been good

Ended up picking up the eheim pro 4+ 350 for 150 bucks US. So much better than my experience with the fluval 306, overall better build quality too. I still have a fluval 106 I haven't unboxed yet for my 20g long... Maybe it will go better

My current FX6 is actually quiet for the amount of flow it puts out But that being said my ehiem I had on my salt water tank was not even a slight hum. It all depends on what you are looking for it to do. Max filtration comes with a little hum
