Hi there, wondering if you can recommend some other plants besides Pothos that would be happy above the tank with their roots in water? I'd like to try something like that but i have 3 annoying cats and Pothos isnt stupid cat-safe.

I’m afraid nothing short of a cage around the top of the tank would work .

That would be interesting to see! Other than that I got no idea what your cat proof plant would be...

So, is there a lack of suggestions because there are genuinely no other plants besides pothos that can permanently tolerate wet roots? Or just because you guys dont know if the other plants would be cat safe? Because if you know of other plants that would hold up, i can figure out if any of them wold be safe. I just don't know much about plants, besides " green is pretty"

If they don’t die and stay green I like them .

There are a few other plants species that can be grow with roots in the aquarium like potho's. Not sure if any are cat friendly though so you would have to give them a try. Bamboo, aluminum plants, and spider plants.

Bamboo, aluminum plants, and spider plants. Thanks for the suggestions! So, spider plants are okay in water long term?? That's awesome! Because i know they are on the lists of cat safe. I thought of that a while back because i remembered that my mom used to have the baby offshoots in cups of water but she always replanted them after they grew roots so i thought they couldnt stay like that. I thought i had read that somewhere too, that they couldnt stay in water long term. If they can, that's awesome, that will probably be my solution. Now that you say bamboo i think that rings a bell as a possibility. I think my problem there was that real bamboo was ok but there's something else thats commonly sold nicknamed bamboo but isnt the real stuff and that one isnt cat safe. So i think i gave up on that cause i was worries i'd get the wrong one. Never heard of aluminum plant, will have to google that one.

Yes these plants will do well in the aquarium roots only in. They will get a different root form than they would in soil. I simply call them there water roots. I have seen very long roots on potho's plants about 24 inches long dangling in the current. All these plants also help pull excess nutrients out of the water thus helping battle algae issues if needed for that. Or they will simply provide nice hiding places for fish. Best of luck with trying out these new plants.
