Well today I had to make new microworm cultures since the old ones started to smell and were not producing well any longer! So the following is what works for me! I start with two deli containers, because you never know if one of your culture will crash! I poke tiny holes in the top of the containers, these have to be very tiny, otherwise you will have Fruitfly’s lay eggs in your culture, and than it is no longer usable! Here are the supplies that I use! Deli cups, quick oats, yeast, and some aged tank water! This is the old culture which stopped producing! You can see dead worms on the side of the container as a dark ring! Put about an inch of quick oats in the deli cups. Than I use a turkey baster to carefully “ wash” the live worms off the surface of the old culture medium. When most of the worms are floating in the water I use the turkey baster to transfer them into the new deli cups! I add more water until the oats no longer absorb it, and then I add a sprinkle of yeast! Than I close the culture and wait for the magic to happen! Here is the new culture right after I made it And here it is 20 min later! I know it is not as many worms on the side of the deli cup as most of you expect, but I was using a very old culture to make the new ones and the worms need time to reproduce!
