This may seem to be a very basic question but it still confuses me. I have a 265 tank that I keep about 60 to 70 assorted tetras in. I have a sponge filter running and do 50% water change every week. My Ph is stable but remains at 7.6 I have zero nitrates/nitrites or chlorine. I am trying to heavily plant my tank using Florite complete, I am using T5ho and Cfl for spot lighting. My crypts and wisteria seem to be doing good but my val and amazon sword are not. I am trying to grow out the tank for Discus but I'm worried about the PH and not being able to maintain plants. The temp is stable at 82. My question are how do I get my vals and swords to take off and should I worry about lowering my Ph.

Well it is not the pH affecting your swords and vals. I have grown them in harder water. Your substrate is likely affecting the vals and swords as they prefer a fine substrate. Try mixing in sand to your substrate to give the delicate roots of those plants a place to properly dig in. And the temperature is border line high for these plants as well. Vals do best in low to mid 70s and can be delicate and may not do well for you. Try cryptocoryne balansae as it has long strap like leaves survives in hard and can handle the temps. I know you have to keep the high temperature for discus so it best find plants that can handle those conditions constantly.
