Just wondering if any of you folk have installed, or considered installing a battery backup (or generator) for your aquaria, in the event of a power outage? Would like to hear any recommendations Thanks all

I have considered a battery back up. After considerable research I ended up with a price of $1000 plus the price of two deep cycle marine batteries!
The parts brake down is something like this...
1000w pure sine wave converter, one with a built in charger and autoamtic transfer switch between battery and shore power. This will be the expensive part, you can get a cheep Chinese one for $400 or so, but any that is guaranteed and made here or the states runs $800 and up. The two marine batteries run in parallel will ensure that you have continued power for a long time.
Mind you this setup is for my fish room to run 20 tanks for approximately 12 hours. However it gives you an idea! If you do not need all the power, or just running a couple of tanks for an hour or two, an appropriately sized UPS system should work! They run around $400 or so!
Hope this helps!

Because of the low cost I just have a 1500w generator ($300) for back up, the only real drawback is that you have to be home to fire up the generator and plug in all the necessary fish equipment

Thanks much Sorry for the late response. Yes a deep cycle marine battery and a Sine wave converter. I see them on amazon. I was thinking to use this as a backup for a sump pump as well as my aquarium It might be a good excuse to get one. Thanks
