Want to save money on a dechlorinator for water changes? Are you changing a large quantity of water? Well then consider buying the powder form of Prime called Seachem Safe
A 1kg bottle of this runs between $45-50
A 250g bottle is between $15-20
I change roughly 150g of water weekly so for me going with Prime was becoming and expensive product to use as i was purchasing 2-500ml bottles per year (approx. $40)
I decided to buy a 250g of safe to test out, and to my surprise that bottle lasted me 1 yr. (1/4 teaspoon treats up 75g)
I decided to buy a 1kg bottle on the last bus trip breaking down the numbers, per year i'm spending roughly $12/yr on dechlorinator

I remember you buying this on the bus trip .
So do you just sprinkle some in each tank or do you dissolve it in the fresh water before it goes in the tank ?

I kept my 250g bottle from before and have filled it just once since last years bus trip. I have a small container i have marked a water line on, fill it with tap water first, then add 6-1/4 teaspoons to it and mix. then using a syringe i use the 1ml/10g rule. add it before i fill the aquarium.

Awesome , that seems simple enough .

Something to look into, is that safe depletes oxygen levels when mixed with the new water. From what I understood is that this is only a problem with tanks without added aeration and tanks with a sealed lids. It was a couple of years ago that I did this research on Safe so you might want to double check the facts on this product before using. I use it myself but only on certain tanks in my fish room, but if you can use Safe it sure is a big money saver for dechlorinator. I dissolve it in the new water before it goes in the fish tank

I exclusively use Safe! I use a 1 gram measuring spoon and add it strait into the tank! My fish even eat some of the granulates, never had an issue!
As a matter of fact I just ordered a 1kg bottle from AngelFins!

Andre, is there a special way of storing the open bottle of Safe? The great thing about prime or safe is it won't expire I just keep mine on the shelf and open it to fill my smaller container and that's it..
