just finished listening and wow cory hit so many nails that he built a fish store with this video! I know people hear me trash some stores but i'm truly tired of what this area has to offer which has thus led me wandering away from this hobby and the club. I still enjoy maintain what i have at home but whenever i go into a store and see things that cory brings up in this video i'm left shaking my head and asking myself "Why did i even come here", I keep thinking maybe just maybe the next time i go in it will be different and to my great surprise it's still the same thing...

Good video, the part about the relationship between LFS and Aquarium Clubs was very interesting but with no new clear ideas how they can really help each other. The shop hop something we have done in the past, maybe should try again

he also makes a good point about fish clubs not supporting the stores tho... I try to buy my meds, salt and other non-living items locally however I find the cichlid selection isn't up to par with what I would like. I think its a big communication barrier cause we might say "oh if you had this I would buy it" but then when they get it in I don't have room for it so not exactly sure how they would go about it. Maybe they donate fish to be auctioned off (helps move some slower inventory for them), maybe give them a free booth at the upcoming swap as a thank you for supporting the club? Maybe have 1-2 meetings a year at one of the stores? Not an easy solution for sure

The shop hop something we have done in the past, maybe should try again I totally agree . We’ve done it twice and both times we had a great time . Members bought a few things and the shops really appreciated it . Just a way to show our support as they are very generous towards the club .

Now that I watched Cory’s video I think we need to start thinking of ways to work with them more ... lots to think about for sure.

Why would you let this affect your hobby and especially the club ? I totally understand your frustration and share it to some degree but we have so much at our finger tips , whether it be auctions , day trips to the States or Toronto , online etc etc .

Having the opportunity to travel a good part of North America, I can tell you the bad outweigh the good. Cory has hit the nail on a lot of stuff I've seen, experienced and avoided. Great video. He has good business sense.
Very insightful. I purchased a Cobalt NEO-THERM 25W locally. The price on Amazon was 83.99. Locally was 83.99. Why did I buy it locally?
1) I was there and could simply purchase it and go home. No waiting for shipping 2) No charge for shipping and handling 3) Base price was the same, so local made more sense.
I do research and compare, if locally is more, Amazon gets the sale, or I go over to Detroit or Greensboro when I am there.

He is right in his assessment but incorrect on why you can't beat Amazon's prices. Amazon orders in bulk from the supplier and is able to reach a much, much, much larger market. The LFS maybe has 5% of windsor's population as potential customers since not every household keeps fish. Amazon's customer base is huge.
Honestly, I am only interested in buying fish from a LFS. All I see in this city are poorly kept fish and tanks labeled incorrectly. High prices for sub quality fish. And lastly, cichlid tanks with a rainbow of assorted juveniles that you have to raise to adulthood and try to figure out what species you purchased. Most likely hybrids. I would kill for a Finatics or even a Big Als. Fish...fish...fish.
