Again Ms Walker has given us the pleasure of sponsoring her classroom tank . This will be our seventh year doing this . Some years have been a great success and others ( the year a put in a pair of convicts that never left their cave ) not so much . All in all I think we’ve done a pretty good job and maybe sparked a little interest in some of the students .
This year has gotten off to a bit of a rocky start . First the tank , filter and light were damage during the summer at the school . Thanks to Keith ( freshwater ) we have a newer tank , I brought in a new filter and Miss Walker has fixed the light . Tank is up and running and I will also be dropping off some Danio’s to help cycle it .Thanks to Les Jr for donating the danio for both school tanks .
Many more updates to follow

Hello Folks. I am so so so sorry I have not been here much this year. As you know, we are in the midst of labour disputes. I am not allowed to get to school very early and I have to leave within 15 minutes of the bell every day. It is very stressful and nearly impossible to get things done. Not to mention we've been on strike and when the high school teachers go out on strike, our students must stay home due to the fact that our support workers are lumped in with OSSTF strikes. What a big mess.
Our filter is not working at the moment. It's making a rattling noise and I had one of our custodians who is a fish tank guy have a look at it. He thinks it is toast. I'm not sure, but the fan blade seems to be loose and hitting its housing. So we are using the filter from last year that has a slow leak. We plug and unplug it every day.
The kids do like the fish, although few are in love with the tank. I guess having some kids fall in love is a hit or miss thing and you aren't going to get a "Daniel" (remember him?) every time.
I hope everyone here is well and that you are "swimming" through winter in good health.

I’ve kind of been in limbo not knowing what to do as far as fish and maintenance with the labour dispute going on . Anything you need at any time just ask and we will get it done . As far as the filter going I will drop off a new one tomorrow if that works for you .

Staff will be at the school, but I will not. We are on strike again. I will let the office staff know that you might be by.

Drove by the school today and didn’t want to offend anyone by crossing the picket line so I’ll be by first thing Monday morning with the filter .

Hello Fishy Friends
Well, what a year.
The latest crazy thing in this already crazy year is of course the 3 weeks we will now be away from school. I like to call it "March Break-Break-Break".
As I was sitting at my desk with headphones on (while my students had French class) watching a YouTube video about how to set the timer on the automatic fish feeder, my VP walked in and said, "I know you are getting ready to set up your automatic fish feeder, but we just got an email saying that all animals, including fish, have to go home." With only about 20 minis of my prep period left, I ran around the school looking for someone with a tank at home so they could foster the fish in both my tank and Mrs. L's tank. We did find a student with a tank, called home to see if parents were okay with it, and got the fish into a big jug for him to take home.
So the fish are in safe keeping for the tree week shut-down.
The kids were pretty sad about it but felt better knowing the fish would be safe, especially the one they named "Michael Phelps" after the Olympic swimmer, whose name they then changed to "Michelle Phelps" because they think it is pregnant.
I will get a little gift for the grade 6 student and his family who are fostering our fish. They are luckily people with their own tanks, plural, so I figure they know what they're doing. The grade 6 boy even has a tank of his own in his bedroom. That made me feel better. Obviously tanks are a hobby in the home.
Well, I'm probably going offline for quite some time, headed out to my farm where I do not have internet, not even on my phone. Time to disconnect, read books, work in the garden, and live my otherwise "Old Timey" lifestyle on the land.
I hope you all are well and we'll see you on the flipside of March Break-Break-Break.
