Hey guys and gals! Can anyone help.me identify this. I'm guessing some sort of bacteria, but I'm not sure how to treat it (especially with the new Canadian bans). Currently having no success with melafix. It looks like white, flat, filmish (lol - real word) splotching. It's appearing on the body and a bit on the lips. Pics were hard to take in focus but here are a few. I thought maybe columnaris, but the fish are acting normal and it's been over a week, so I'm not sure. I lost 3 fish that didn't show any symptoms last week - they were new to quarantine and I've had very bad survival rates from this store, so I expected that much.

From the pictures it could be fungal or bacterial infection.

I don't think it's fungal based on the lack of "fuzz". I could be wrong though If it's bacterial, what would you recommend?

I would use API general cure, the powder I gave you.

I did use the general cure you gave me. Unfortunately it didn't have an effect on this. Is there another product you would recommend?

Maybe Bactershield made by Mardel. Also did you try salt dip?

I was gonna say isolate and hit with salt hard, I find salt can help with a lot of diff things other than parasites. I also don’t like being “that guy” but sometimes the meds are worth using on the fish. Some get sick... some don’t make it... hard as it might be it’s a big part of the hobby. Good luck!

Can you explain what you mean by hit with salt hard? Do you mean adding it to the quarantine tank that they are isolated in? I agree about your comment. I could end up spending more on meds than the fish originally cost. The tricky part is, the disease isn't killing them... So I feel like they'll be in quarantine indefinitely if I can't get this to clear up. Lol!

Sorry yes that’s not very informative - start with 1 tablespoon per 3 gallons then gradually increase until you are 1:1 ratio of tbsp salt to gallons of water. Ya I find some of the most irritating diseases are the ones that kill slow or never really kill and just disable the fish. I’m dealing with a parasite problem in 1 tank right now, very frustrating when they start looking better then start wasting away again

Ok, I'm going to try that. How gradually should I increase the dose?
