They are oddballs in the hobby period. I found them to be my favorite of the Corydoras species that I kept.
I've kept C.agassizi (true), C.melini, C.panda, C.julii, C.paleatus and of course C.ambiacus and I will say, I always prefered the C.ambiacus.
Dwarves are on my list, for another time, down the road...

Been seeing some improvement on my plants on my 46 since adding a 18000k light. Tannins are leeching from my new driftwood on this 20g. I like it though. My betta girl's tank, switched it up a little bit. Added different driftwood and anacharis (local collected from last summer, been propagating lots of this stuff from my original 3 stems lol) Planted 20g with its monster sword plant growing even more. My betta boy's tank getting its daily sunlight, the only light that helps the plants in his tank (the coloured LED sucks). And my little 10g nano.

46g. I know the picture was posted already on another post when i rescaped it, but still looking good 20g tetra tank. My sword is taking over. I love it and the fish love it. That plant is by far their favourite thing to hide out in. 20g livebearer community. Planted down the hornwort, so far the apple snails haven't been able to dent it with as fast as it grows. Floating wisteria and salvinia isnt faring as well, but that's fine too. 10g nano. Rearranged it and added floating salvinia. Because it dims the tank, i removed the higher light plants. Left hornwort, anacharis, anubias Lanceolata, and two young crypt wendtii. 2.5g betta blackwater. Planted with salvinia and hornwort. 3.5g betta. Dont totally love the layout, waiting on the hornwort to grow more. Added salvinia since this photo was taken. Franklin likes the blue rock though, which was a gift from a coworker.

Ive redone a couple... First, my 46g i added the sword plant from my 20 because it outgrew that tank. Then the 20 i removed the sword from had smaller plants added to it My other 20, my apple snails demolished most of the hornwort, so i removed what was left of it and rescaped it. It resulted in looking like our local breakwater beach habitats lol i actually like it. Once my apple snails live out their days, ill add some native plant species like anacharis or vals. Too bad we cant keep natives here. Oh well. My livebearers seem to be enjoying this scape, so do the barbs. My 10g has more plants filling in since my last photo. I removed my anubias to another tank. My betta boy got more hornwort and anubias

Actually, I believe if you get a fishing license, you can keep native fish, under bait fish, which would include, rainbow shiners, rainbow darter, brook stickleback just to name a few.

Ontario Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act
Capture of baitfishes
Anglers: Residents with a valid recreational fishing license issued under the Ontario Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act (FWCA) may capture their own baitfishes for personal use using traps and dipnets following all conditions in Ontario’s Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary. The Ontario Fishery Regulations, 2007 (OFRs) allows them to set a legal minnow trap (no more than 51 cm × 31 cm; labelled with name and address of owner) or capture fishes with a dipnet (no more than 183 cm in diameter or along each side, and during daylight hours only). The capture and use of bait is not allowed in some waters; the latest version of the Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary should be consulted for Zone regulations and exceptions. Baitfishes may be caught for personal use only and anglers must have no more than 120 baitfishes in their possession at any time, which includes both caught and purchased baitfish. Any live holding box or trap must be clearly marked with the name and address of the user, and must be visible without raising it from the water.

Ooooh maybe then i will look into that. I read before that they could not be kept in home aquariums.
Personally really interested in keeping mudminnows. And sticklebacks are really cool too.
Though funny about the shiners, you can buy them from Angel Fins and Shrimp Fever sometimes. AF just had them in stock too... would it be legal to buy those and still keep them without a fishing license? Out of curiosity, really.
Im pretty stocked on the tropicals as it is, so it wouldnt be anytime soon lol

As most of the rainbow shiners bought from a licensed distributor such as a fish store it is legal to keep. Also most of those fish are part of a captive breeding program, or from fish farms, they could never be released!!!

But i wouldnt release them anyways. Thats just irresponsible to native wild fish, introducing potential disease from the trade. Now say i had a license, would it be legal to keep smaller game fish like bluegill or perch? A large native tank would be pretty cool, but i also wouldn't do it if its not legal. But mudminnows are high on my want list... such cool little fish

Game fish are illegal to keep and/or transport live. Even with a fishing licence.
