Ok guys and gals. This was a spur of the moment thing. There was a yard sale down the street from me. I noticed the was a 55 gallon tank there. I looked it over and it was one of those with the wood grain looking trim. Looked nice enough. It came with 2 power filters, a 300 watt heater, a two big decorative rocks, a sunken ship decoration, gravel, gravel cleaner, misc little stuff and both fluorescent hoods. So it was all there and then some. I tested everything and everything works. Awesome. Once home I cleaned it up and noticed some of the silicone was bad at the bottom. They said it held water but I don't chance anything and I want it to last. So I scrapped off the old silicone and applied new. And it was not really hard to scrap off no complaints here. And I think I did a decent job with my silicone beads.
Now I have decided I want a glass lid instead of the two hoods. And I am also going to run sponge filters. So I took everything that came with the tank including the 2 hoods and brought it to Ruffins. I swapped it all out for a new glass lid, new heater and 2 sponge filters. Nice deal there. Now I already have enough sand substrate for that tank. I also have all the live plants minus a few and decorations I need. So far only money spent was the $50 for the tank. Now I am taking down 2 small tanks and putting the 55 gallon in there place. I took the 5.5 gallon down and the 3 gallon. Both these tanks were i put up for sale and both had heater, filter, some decorations and both had florescent lighting. I had a yard sale today and sold both tank for $50. lol. Now the money is back I spent on the 55 gallon tank. So now its a free tank at this point. All I have left to get is the lighting and that is being arranged. Will post up dates as they happen I added some pics right after I silicone and will do water test in 48 hours.
