I can lower it about an inch or so .. trying to keep the DIY mini sponge filter tube below the water level, but i can try to rig up something smaller

The reason I state this as once again, they need atmospheric air to breathe and survive, by raising the level, they have to swim that much more to gain access to that.
Keeping it shallow ensures that all can reach air without too much effort. Once they become larger, slow raise levels 1/2" at a time. But until then, keep it at the current levels.

I lowered it a bit now And theres a lid on the tote to keep humidity levels in the tote high. I had to move the tote to beside our baseboard heater because the heat lamp wasnt sufficient enough. I turned our heat back on lol usually at this time of year im putting the AC on! If you look at the thermometer photo, you can see one of the fry in front. Super small still. Theyre also starting to get the taller body shape. Ordered Hikari First Bites and its perfect size now to start weaning them onto that and off the infusoria. Theyre eating the fry food well so far! Water is stained with tannins from the almond leaves (used for secondary food source)

Well, i dont think the move helped. Many of the smallest fry didnt survive. I found a LOT dead when i did my water change today.
At this point, i have less than 20 left.
Big, big loss. But, the ones dead were half the size still of the few survivors, so perhaps they just weren't strong enough.
But still, hits hard.

A lesson learned. Next time, leave them in their container until they are much larger.
Water levels may not have helped either. Consistency is the key to rearing fry. Unlike Livebearers (aka Feeder Fish), Anabantoids are a little more sensitive during their early days.

Yeah it is harsh.
But, the temperature was starting to swing bad in the incubator box because ambiant home temperature has been rising and falling so much with this weather. I took the risk moving them, as the constant temperature fluctuations were affecting their behaviour.
I also worry theyre not growing enough. I feel they all should be larger now at 2 weeks old. I increased the frequency of feedings, how many times should they be fed? Im feeding at least 6 times a day right now.
Water level is only 3 inches deep. Everything ive read said 8 inches for dwarf gourami spawns.

Look at their size and progress and tell me what was working? When they start to get noticeably larger and less transparent, it would be safe to start raising levels slowly, over a long period of time.

I would try feeding them sum baby brine shrimp. At two weeks they should be able to take them!

I would try feeding them sum baby brine shrimp. At two weeks they should be able to take them! I have Hikari First Bites and a small live culture of cyclops copepods. They are just barely able to take the First Bites.

Keep doing what you are doing until you start to see noticeable increase in size and appetite. Then slowly introduce different foods.

As of this morning, i can only find one living fry when i went to feed them. He came out of hiding under the leaf when i disturbed the tank.

Actually was surprised last feeding to find 3! So still got 3 but still.
Someone else is saying the mass die off was because the dad is a possible hybrid. But if that were the case i think that id have seen larger die offs earlier in.
I think it was mostly the move that did it in, but i dont think these ones were strong to begin with since they seem to have stopped growing at 6 days.

Next time, everything remains the same until they are noticeable as Gourami. Keep them in the tank they are in, this lesson is transferable breeding other fish as well.
