Good evening everyone. This is so frustrating, this is the second time this happened within a year! No idea why it is happening. Everything is the same as previous days, weeks, months, and just out of the blue all the cryptocorine in the tank melts at the same time. There are at least four, more likely six, different crypts in the tank and all decided to melt. Same thing happened to the same tank about eight months ago as well. I can not think of anything that I did differently than my usual maintenance on the tank. This is what I came to home to.... By tomorrow it will be a mushy mess, and I will have to syphon it all out!

Crypts melt for any changes in light, water quality, temperature, fertilizer....Sometimes for no apparent reason. Vacuum out the mush, do not disturb the roots and they will grow back.
I had this happen from time to time as well when I was deep into these plants.
You said yearly? Sun has adjusted position in sky... best excuse if any...

LOL "Blue Moon..."
Funny thing is, I had only one tank do this when I was running my little Crypt farm. That was the big one in the living room in my old place.
The rest of the tanks never experienced this. Same routine, same maintenance. Something about that tank, just clean up the mush, leave the roots alone and they will return.

Good evening everyone! So here is the tank as it stands now! I have narrowed down the possible causes of the mass melt to looking at the tank too hard and the full moon. As nothing else makes sense!

It will bounce back Gabe, as I've said, I had one tank that did this as well. I kept the roots where they were and it all came back.

That's never happened to me yet. But if it does I will be shocked like you. George farmer on youtube had the same thing happen to his in a large high tech setup. I constantly trim off older leaves on my crypts and they always have new ones coming from the middle. They are supposedly legendary for doing this. I'm anxious to see them bounce back for you.

I’m sure they will be able to come back! It was just unexpected, as I went through the same thing eight or so months ago!

Beware the Blue Moon...
Like I said, as long as you left the roots in place and have not disturbed them, they will regrow. Sometimes the best mysteries are the ones that do not get solved.
When your plants are full blown growing, or sooner, move one to another tank and watch it's progress separate from the main group. If it continues to thrive in it's new location and the Crypt tank crashes again, then it is definitely something with the Crypt tank.

I have the same crypts in several tanks with no problem at all!

Just for curiosity factor, move it to a tank where you can observe it clearly. I am curious to see how that survives compared to the rest if they do melt again and that one does not.
