I like how you laid it out on the floor before starting . This has the potential to be a very nice tank .

Interesting idea with the slate on the bottom. I’m guessing you just looking for the black water look and not the drop in PH, as the slate will regulate the PH a bit higher. Great look for the tank thought!

Yes I was wondering what that much slate will do mixed with that much wood. All my tanks seem to stay at 7.6 PH but I will have to keep an eye on PH with this tank

With the leaf litter and the wood, making this tank hard vacuum l was planning to go with a bare bottom tank. It didn't give me the look I was after so laid the slate flat to simulate a bare bottom but with a different look. Hopefully the slate bottom will make maintenance easier than other Substrates. If the PH starts going up I will go to a true bare bottom tank

I really like the idea of the slate stacked on the bottom like substrate - keep us posted on how keeping it clean goes. I’m about to take all the gravel out of my tanks haha

Try using RO (just RO) water, or you can make your own Brown Water (Peat Water). You have some natural options on keeping the pH to where you want it.
