Sorry to hear about your loss! In this hobby nothing hurts more than to see your fish die and have no clue to why!! Considering your situation I would go with Roland advice and do back to back to back water changes to flush out the toxin and fresh water for your fish will be the best thing for them I'm sure you don't need me saying this to you but I would my next purchase be a python or make a DIY python You will never regret that decision I know I haven't
Good luck and hope your other cichlids survive

I feel for you Thorn I really do. But never stop trying. Your fish were way too nice to ever give up.

It's possible the bucket was used for other things. Always make sure it's kept away from chemicals. Make sure no one sprays febreeze or other air fresheners in the room the tank is in. The other thing you can do is call your local water supply and ask if they are doing heavier treatments than normal to clear out algae or other issues that they are having. Ask them for a water quality report for the day you had issues.

Please consider running some fresh Carbon for a couple days. Remove and discard any you may have been running.
How do you condition your water and what sort of % change did you make that day. Where do you store your bucket/s?
I'm sorry to hear about this.

The 5 gallon bucket was under the tank, I use tap water same or close enough temperature as the tank. I do use prime water conditioner I chage only 25% of the water. I also clean the filter pads with the aquarium water. I dont know what went wrong.

I did water changes in all my tanks today. I am on Kingsville water and so far everyone seems happy. I did buy three Angelfish yesterday and woke up to two of them dead this morning. I can't say I am surprised I bought them at the same store (with my store credit) where I bought 6 penguin tetras and watched 3 of them die off the same day I bought them. Perfect water parameters here...dont' get it.

Sorry to hear about your angels dying. And I remember the penguin deaths. But looking forward to seeing these blue wag platys you have.

Well, it serves me right to buy anything else at this certain local store. I have never had anything else die except for what I bought there! i do have one angel left though, and it is doing great. It is from a totally different batch from the other two.

thornroun, it sounds like you did a reasonable water change. This is the process I used for cichlids. I did this for years without issue.
Fill Rubbermaid totes with tap water. Temperature adjusted to 79 or 80. Add Prime Add Cichlid Buffer, marine salt and Baking Soda (these help with Carbonates and pH as I recall) (The line above is optional) Stir and pump into tank.
Not much to it but if your pH is off it can cause major issues. Not saying that is the case here but perhaps.

What's that about a Loepard and it's spots? Since we are not open to discuss this on the open forum I would appreciate a PM too. Fish Drama. Love it.
