Well I woke up today and noticed one of my honduran red points released some eggs for the first time in my community tank. She seems to be guarding them good but I am just wondering do I let nature take its course or do I separate her and the flower pot with eggs in a breeder tank? Basically my question is; will my other cichlids make a meal of her eggs? Not sure what to do... Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have a male HRP? Do you have facilities for raising baby fish? Do you really want to? Those are a few of the questions you need to answer before deciding. I assume by now you've made your choice.

I was actually looking for helpful positive advice, not so much "20 questions". I obviously have the necessary means to breed them if I am asking if I should move them.

How big is ur tank? Use a divider maybe or make ur own divider with a mesh cloth so the fries wont slip through. But I suggest to move them with the mother. Trying to help.

If you have a seperate tank you can fill it with tank water at the same temp as they were in before. Move the flower pot with eggs and Mom. Now I have to put a disclaimer here: I breed dwarf south american cichlids (apistos), but they have the same parenting strategy. I find you get more surviving babies with Mom around because she picks any fungusey eggs away and keeps the current flowing over them by fanning. Also there is a problem with cichlids being poor parents later on because they are seperated from their parents and don't learn the skills early on. As always the natural way is usually the best way

Thanks so much guys. This information has really helped me. I will definitely try this next time. Unfortunately there is not alot of info on HRP's that I can find. This advice helps though.

The 20 questions she is talking about are from lisachromis. Misskitty asked specific questions looking for answers.
Lisachromis I don't know if you realise but your posts plural, come off as negative.
We are all here to learn and have fun.
thanks Denny
