Hi,
I am planning on visiting a tropical fish store in michigan. Anyone know if I can import plants, and how much can I buy before I need to pay tax?
Thanks

Plants are an absolute no no when crossing the border. You need a special and expensive permit to bring plants across... never cross with plants

Perhaps I just got lucky, but I've crossed 2-3 times with plants. I probably won't do that again.

I normally just say I've got aquarium stuff then just answer any specific questions they have. I know on one trip I did mention aq plants. Like I said perhaps I just got lucky. If you are truthful, as far as I know, the worst they will do is confiscate them.

I have brought fish back from the states more times then I care to remember and have never had a hard time. Only one time did I bring a plant back and I was lucky because they did not ask what I had, if they would have asked I would have been honest with them as I believe as the others have said that the worst that would have happened is they would confiscate the plant. Now if you try to hide it and they find it you could be fined and I'm sure you would be flagged and watched much more closely every time you cross. Not worth the risk.....
