I thought I'd ask the forum if I should do a cichlid tank. I have a ten gallon with the works sitting in my basement doing nothing so I was thinking cichlids but i dont know what to do with it like what I should get for it fake plants real plants what kind of cichlids go well together

Sorry, but a 10 is far to small for all but the smallest shell dwelling cichlids as far as I remember.
I'm not going to say what you may want to try instead. Others here who are keeping some of the smaller Fresh Water species can probably give you some interesting options however.
Hope that helps a bit anyway.

I'm with oldmanriver on this one.a 10 gallon is to small for all but some of the small shell dwellers or maybe some of the apistogrammas . Most cichlids are either to big or to aggressive for a ten gallon..

You can probably do a pair of blue rams in a 10 (or as said previously some of the shellies), but beyond that a 10 is really way too small for most cichlids. Are you looking for colour or behaviour? There's always something that can work in a small tank. You just need to figure out what you like.
