To be sure they have a point. But where do you draw the line?
I have seen animals kept in zoo's which I felt to be sadly inadequate. The circus is worse yet.
The aquarium industry is suspect certainly. Any animal taken from the Wild is cause for concern.
It always makes me wonder when people talk of spending far more money on Livestock than equipment and maintenance. If that is your plan you need to consider a different hobby.
I've been to several major aquariums in North America, including behind the scenes at Shedd. For the most part I think the efforts put forth by the people taking care of these animals speak for themselves. Typically care is top notch. You have to wonder about some of the more intelligent species however. Dolphins for example thrive in the wild in ways I've never seen at an aquarium. Whales simply do not belong in an acrylic box IMO.
It's a touchy subject for me and many others. It is healthy for both sides to be considered.
That said, you bet I am looking forward to it. I always thought Windsor should have built one.

I have booked hotels for the end of Sept. I am waiting to get entry time tickets so I can bypass the lines I expect to see there. I have been to many zoos and aquariums throughout the U.S. and Canada and the only ones I have had any issues with have been the "Private" under funded ones. If not for some of the research and development being done at these places some of our endangered species would be extinct. It would also be nice to see the Belle Isle aquarium reopen.
