Has anyone flown with fish recently? I haven't carried fish on board in a long time but I know the airlines allow pets such as cats in carriers to sit on their owners laps. Was wondering if carrying fish is still allowed. Was considering carrying some in a small cooler bag onboard but my spidery sense is telling me it's probably a no-go.
Thanks,
J

There is a way because I know a few people who came back from the C.A.O.A.C. convention in Edmonton and brought back fish. If you want I can contact one of them and see what they say..Let me know

Hi Les, Please contact your friends. I know I can bring a box and have it checked but am hoping the cooler bag as a carry-on is still permitted. Thanks, J

Hi , He said he had them in his checked luggage. He had them in breather bags and packed them in small cartons with his clothes on all sides. He also said that if they are in your carry-on they will be confiscated. Hope this helps...LES
P.S. if you need breather bags let me know and I will help you look for some...

Really appreciate the feedback. Was considering bringing some plants and/or small fish back with me when I head out east in a few weeks. I'll let you know about the bags.
Thanks,
J

I am curious about this, do you need any special forms or tags?

I used to check corals and some smaller fish as part of my baggage allotment. I'm assuming that if they're checked as cargo you're going to pay for that service.

yes it said somewhere that it was based on weight. I would assume there's some sort of fee, as they charge you for everything when you fly

You're right! They charge for everything when you fly these days. It's getting out of hand, especially when you fly within Canada and the US.

I agree with that. I guess if your only moving a small amount of fish and since it is a domestic flight, they probably won't even notice it with your checked luggage
