Was considering a few plants and very few fish. Depending on whether I can bring a few small tanks back will ultimately determine if the fish will join me.

ah bringing tanks as well, you could definitely put that with you luggage I would just be worried about the tanks being thrown around

They're 10G tanks I used for QT. Just not sure how they should packed to prevent breakage.

I hope someone on here might have some experience shipping fragile items because I wouldn't even know where to start with that besides lots of bubble wrap and styrofoam

When I shipped my wife's expensive keyboard from Vienna to Halifax I had a professional packing company do it and then had it checked on the flight. Not sure if its worth it for a couple of 10G tanks. Gonna play it by ear. Looks like a second checked "bag" is only $20 with Air Canada. The trick is to package the two tanks and stand as one piece. It will definitely be under the weight allowance, just the dimensions and safety I'm thinking of.
Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
J

Just got off the phone with a rep. from Air Canada. She confirmed that no live fish as carry-on due to the liquid restrictions of 100ml. She did confirm that I could put live fish in my regular luggage as long as they're packed properly and not going to leak. Plus, if I could check a second piece of luggage for the cost of $20 and pack it with live fish. Definitely cheaper than using AC Cargo. The dates didn't seem to come into play, but it would be great to have that in writing. The focus seems to be more on dogs, cats and other non-aquatic animals. Gonna test the "waters" and see how it goes.
