The sand is pool filter sand and works great. Just minor rinsing and way cheaper than your LFS sand. Attachments:

I was just at TSC today, and just as a heads up they have sandblasting sand (white) I think its a 50lb bag for 9.99 and play sand for 4.99 a bag. I find playsand can be a bit dusty but for that price, rinse it outside when the weather gets better and it should be ok.

That is a debated question. But I have heard play sand is very dusty and compacts more. The reason I got pool sand is because it prewashed. Hardly any dust and does not compact especially when you have mts snails to borrow thru it. i know nothing really of blasting sand.

Blasting sand is high in silicates and that can cause diatoms

good point, I hadn't thought of that. I may have to go with the play sand then, I didnt' buy anything yet. Last time I had tanks with sand it was 20 yrs ago and I purchased the sand from Big Al's. I seem to recall it being rather expensive. I just need a little now for my Corys to breed on.
