By now your new fish should be checking out their new home. You received 5 young red wagtail platy's and 6 beckford pencilfish. The cool thing about the pencilfish is that when they swim their bodies are on an angle. Hope you enjoy them and if you have any questions please ask.

Awesome! The students went crazy over the fish today!!!!! Our 2 girls are researching and have created "fish fact cards" that we will post once we get some backdrop paper up for the bulletin board behind the tank. I think they want to paint their own underwater scene so it could take some time for that. Once students are done their other work, they like to pull up a chair and watch the fish. They also like to do this at snack break.
I only have one lightbulb and need a 2nd one. I will go over to Ace Aquatics one day at lunch. Just wanted to know if we should get some sort of UV bulb for the plants?

The plants do not need a UV bulb! What they need is a 6500K spectrum bulb! Not sure what kind of fixture you are running, (florescent, incandescent, etc.), however at Ace Aquatics they should be able to help you! Or point you to the right direction anyway!!!

I believe they have an incandescent fixture and the only live plants at the moment are some java fern.

2 6500k compact fluorescent bulbs would be ideal with a incandescent fixture. If you need compact florescent bulbs I can help.

I use the dollarama CFL.... 6500k, and pretty cheap You won't need the 23 watt one though... the 9w (if you can find it in 6500k) or the 13w should fit in that fixture... I think..

Sure I could bring the bulbs on Sunday. As well as some hornwort plants to donate to the tank. It another simple and easy plant to grow.

Great to see this developing, those basic CFL or Glen's compact's will be more than enough for java fern
