I woke up this morning to two of my tanks foggy! Both different tanks one is hotter by 5-8 degrees one is sand other river rocks. Different fish. One has hornwort the other no plants because the snail eats them and he's sleeping right now so there is no food for him in there this weekend at all. So... i changed both filters and cleaned them out. I did a 50% water change in the one. Didn't do any water change in the other yet because I'm in belle river and my water needs to have the Cl gassed out of it and I didnt have enough so I will do that tomorrow after the water ages. What else should I do?? Is this algae?

When you say it's foggy, do mean as in condensation on the glass or that the water is cloudy?
"i changed both filters and cleaned them out." How did you change filters and clean them? Did you put new media in the filters, wash the current media under a tap or did you clean media in existing or old tank water?

cloudly can be benifical bacteria bloom from my understanding... your tanks could be going through another cycle??? i guess you have to look at what you added the last couple of days

It is not algae! You have a bacteria bloom on your hands!
Just recently I had cloudy water due to very high bioload! Like Salty said you might have gone into a mini cycle witch also can cause this! In any case I would do daily water changes, they might not help, but it can not hurt!
The reason J, was asking the manner of the "cleaning" and "changing" of the filters, is to see if you induced a mini cycle!

Your not alone in this. This happens to the best of us and actually one of my tanks is going through it now. What usually happens is I'll do a water change and clean my filters on the same day even though I know it's best not to. So like Gabe said I would do daily water changes and it will clear up as soon as it goes through it's mini cycle.

also never rinse out your filter media in tap water/sink etc. you'll kill all the beneficial bacteria. Rinse it in the aquarium water. Use a product called "cycle" or similar, to replenish when you buy NEW media.
also... no matter where you live, you cannot "gass off" our tap water anymore... there was an article in the windsor star to aquarists (circa 2000 ish)? talking about the levels of chlorine and chloramine in our water.. you MUST use a dechlorinator...

been keeping fish for over 45 years "never" used declorinator Seriously?!?!? I've aged water before , in barrels, and such when keeping discus and breeding bettas (made betta water changes super easy) but I always used a dechlorinator too... Steve are you using the water straight from the tap? or aging it first as well?

yes I do age my water in barrels, and les you are right we are old timers and may do things a little different, and I also hear many praises with people using declorinators, please do not stop using them if you are successful with them. just suggesting there is another way if you are straped for cash.
