Go buy a plastic restorer for vehicle headlights at Canadian tire, rub it on till it drys to a haze then buff it off with a clean towel.

What you think may be glass may just be plastic. I know mine are plastic and not glass. So that could be your problem with nothing working. I think once it goes cloudy there's no turning back. best option would be to measure and get a glass company to cut a piece, replace the old with the new and silicone in.

Try the plastix product from Canadian tire, it may cost 6 or 7 dollars its made the clean grease and grime build up on headlights when they get too hazy/foggy. I've used it and it cleaned up my plastic headlight buckets no problem. This stuff will even remove fine scratches in plastic just not deep scratches.

I know this is an older thread but I'm going to reply to this because my husband and I don't buy new tanks. Trust me the tanks that we've bought, many were in bad shape. Some of them were just really bad. We tried everything we could think of to get these stains off the glass but nothing worked. We didn't give up though. We found that with warm water and 1500 grit wet sand paper, everything comes off easy. When you think the white stuff is etch into the glass, it isn't. The sand paper doesn't scratch the glass either. Just rub the sand paper in circular motions on the glass and remember to use water. It doesn't require a lot of work either. It comes right off and the glass is super clear and clean. Works everytime. If the tank, glass lids and so on have been dry for a very long time it's best to soak it first for about a week. Trust me this works everytime! We've made videos on how to refurbish a whole tank set up but we just haven't posted it on YouTube yet.
