It's so much easier when the parents are taking care of the brood. They are on the job 24/7. Not sure how much truth there is to this but I read that with this species, the older batch of fry will help out the parents and take care of the new born fry. Years ago I saw a large tank of these and there must have been 4 or 5 generations all living in harmony . Was a very impressive sight . Check this out

Here's some proof of the above. A single young one from the last brood survived, and is now swimming amongst this brood. Now here's some more pics of the whole family (even adults - as in the wild they've been known to feed on clouds of plankton) feeding on some "Hikari* first bites" ..

These are doing AMAZING. Mom n dad have been fighting a bit, but babies are comfortable swimming around the entire tank. Dad still keeps a close watch, but their curfew is much later now
