What a great thing to do les! Glad all the kids are enjoying the tank this year. Hopefully you are developing some future aquarium society members.

Hello We are back to school this week. The tank is looking okay and the students had a renewed interest in the fish, having missed them for 2 weeks. I was at PetSmart tonight but unsure which filter pads to buy so Friday I will take the old one out and put it in a ziplock bag to take it with me to PetSmart. Don't worry, we stroll around there from time to time as we now have a 9 month old Sheltie. She just graduated at the top of the class, with my 11 year old son doing much of the handling! Have a look: www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5lmhI-WWHoHey, that just gave me an idea! I think I could get a kid to do a tank tour and post it on my class youtube channel!

Have no fear your filter pads are here . Oh man that was cheesy . I'm on my way over to the school to drop them off.

Whoa. Just got the filter pads. "Have no fear your filter pads are here" is not cheesy. It's real. You are a super hero. "Aqua Man" is taken, but maybe you could be "Powerful Poisson Pal" or "Tank Titan" or something. We'll work on it.
Thank you! But I really wasn't expecting such service. Like I said, PetSmart is now a place we wander around every once in a while, so I can pick things up.

Glad we could help . Like I have said many times in the past " just tell us what you need and it will be taken care of " . We are only to happy to help. If you get a chance maybe post a recent picture of the tank . Have you been able to do any water changes since you've been back ?

That's a great video of your dog . When I was younger my parents raised Collie's so that video brought me back to my youth . Same dog just smaller version .

I go to the school daily with my daughter so I'd be more than happy to assist with any tank maintenance that might be needed. Would love to see the tank progress also.

The students were very excited today to see that a shrimp might be pregnant. One girl named Kylie hopped on the google machine and started looking up what to do. I think last year you said the young would not survive. But Kylie really wants to try to set up a salty nursery tank. Should I let her try? Any advice?

Here's an article I found online on breeding Amano Shrimp. gabhar.wordpress.com/2009/11/11/breeding-amano/Seems pretty intense . I know of no one personally who has been successful in breeding these types of shrimp due to hatching and raise the larva . Still very cool that one of the students is excited about them .

Kylie can't be stopped. Today she took the shrimp out of the tank into a smaller container with a screen lid on it. She is going to keep an eye on her. But over the weekend I think we should put the shrimp back into the tank so the water she has is oxygenated. We read the article and she wants to go for it, with the serious message that it may not turn out well. She's prepared.

Got to love the new generation of Aquarists!

I think it's an excellent idea for her to give it a shot. The absolute worst that can happen is a failure, and even a failure in science is a success!

"even failure in science is a success" = music to this science teacher's ear.

Go Kylie Go . Let her know the whole Windsor Aquarium Society is behind her . If there's any equipment or supplies she needs we will have them there the next day.
Also when transferring the shrimp from one place to the other be very careful as they are real jumpers.

Well, Kylie went straight to her nursery tub today only to find the eggs out of the female, but also gone? Did she eat them? Were they even egss or were we just seeing undigested food? Either way, Kylie handled it well. She was not upset. She put the shrimp back in the tank. We'll keep an eye on it. Just watching her so interested was great, and like Xander said, even a failure in science is a success.
