In Health, we are learning mindful methods of bringing our stress levels down. These boys are sitting near the tank, with classroom lights dimmed, enjoying the new fish and their mindful colouring page....

Have you set aside a container of water for your water changes ? If you need a jug to do this just let me know .
Try to give the fish three small feeding a day . One of the reasons I included the Albino Tiger Barbs is because of their eating behaviour. They shoot to the surface at great speed to pick off the flake food . Something I think the students will get a kick out of .

Thanks for the reminder about getting some water ready. I have jugs in my science lab that I use.

In Grade 8 Science we are studying Fluids. This week we've learned about the 2 types of flow: Laminar and Turbulent. We were able to point to the fish and it's streamlined body as an example of an "object" that would experience laminar flow of water around it. The water's path would go up, over, and around the fish's body without much disturbance to its path, thus creating laminar flow of the water.

That is great for the kids to have visual aid to absorb all the information! Glad to hear the tank is a hit with everyone once again!

LOL! Teaching Old Dogs new Tricks.
That's a pretty impressive little tank. Tiger Barbs are extremely active and very hardy fish. As for huddling around Aquariums, most of us still do this and will continue to do so.

Hello
My students have shredded a bunch of newspaper and we are ready to set up our worm composting bin this week. Can we drop a couple of tiny Red Wigglers (that's the worm species) into the tank to see if the fish go for it?
If anyone is interested, I have red wigglers if you want to set up your own vermicomposting bin. Red Wigglers can run $60 a pound, plus shipping, online. But if you want a small handful to build up your own colony, I can give them to you for free (until it gets really cold out). You cannot use earthworms. Just let me know. Lots of youtube videos on how to set it up using rubbermaid bins.

Yes by all means feed the small red wigglers to the fish . If their to big just cut them up first .
I sure hope someone takes you up on your offer .
Also expect another drop off in the next day or two .
