Thanks for all the kind words, it has been a pleasure to participate in this project. Anyone of us could have and would have done this and I feel fortunate to have the opportunity. I would just like to thank each of you for donating fish and equipment to this wonderful project. I would especially like to thank Ms Walker , the aqua-techs and the rest of the students for letting us try to make a difference. And it's not over yet as we still have 6 months to make this even better.
Happy Holidays, Les

I bet the first thing the students do when they return to school in the new year is to run over to the tank and see how all the fish made out.

So 2 more days until we find out how the school tank made out over the holidays.

It is going to be fine! They need to do a water change ASAP, just in case the feeder put too much food in, but that is about it! I hope they are as excited to see the tank as we are to hear from them!

Happy New Year, everyone. We got back to find the tank in okay shape. It was surprising how much water had evaporated. We had filled the tank right up to the top black plastic trim, but when we returned it was down by nearly 1/3 of the tank! We had prefilled a large jug that Les had lent us before we had left, so on Monday we used that standing water to fill the tank right back up! The floating plant has deteriorated but the rest of the tank looks good. We have not been able to spot any shrimp, but then they are hard to spot anyway and we will keep looking. The fish look just as happy and healthy as ever swimming around quickly, no signs of skin change or anything. If there is anything we should do now, please let us know.

Well I am very happy to heat the fish all made it. I figured they would be ok. First thing I would do is give the tank a water change. Remove any dead plant from the tank also. Hopefully you find the shrimp. Were the kids excited to check out there classroom tank ?

Well, I only had 13 students on Monday due to the snow, so the excitement was there but in a subdued way. The students went over to the tank and were very happy to see the fish still swimming around energetically. Others who have returned Tuesday and today have also made their way over to the tank to check on things.
We will do a water change and take the floating plant out and throw it in our worm composter. Then maybe we will look for some baby worms to feed the fish.

Good to hear that the tank is doing good! I would not worry about the shrimp, they tend to hide quite well! I never can spot any in my tank either!

Also can you let the class know that I brought all their letters to the meeting on Sunday and they put smiles on all their faces. They are so happy that the children are enjoying the tank.

Sure thing. That was great that you did that. DT found a shrimp on the sponge today. It has gotten much bigger. He was very excited to be the guy who finally spotted a shrimp because we have been looking since we returned to school. Also, some of Mr. Burkhart's students came down to my room today looking for some worm compost for their ailing plants. I gave them some compost, then asked "Why don't you feed a couple of worms to the fish?" They did and they loved it. Students really love watching live food being consumed.
