It can happen if your own body temperature isn't acclimated to that temperature.
It's kind of like going for a swim. When you first get into the pool, it might feel a bit cold, but then you get used to the water and it starts to feel quite warm.
Whenever I start my water changes in the winter, it always shocks me how cold my water feels. In the summer, it always feels like my tanks are overheating. But in both cases, my thermometers are always in the same range. By the time I'm done my water changes though, after I've been playing in the water for an hour and a half, everything feels perfectly right~

Step out for 5 minutes come back inside and put your hand in the water... It will feel tropical.

Thxs and I think the betta is hurt because he won’t move he one fin at all and haves fin rot Just keep him in clean water, should recover... if he is new, don't feed him for 24-48 hrs. Once he gets used to the water, he will eat and if you feed before that, its only going to pollute the tank. Once you start feeding, give him one crumb and see if he eats it. If he doesn't, wait another day. If he does, then feed him another crumb later in the day. Dakatah , remember what phish said about feeding your Betta . It's very important not to overfeed .

When I got the betta home a few hours later I feed it like 3 betta pellets at first he just look at them but once he knew they where food he darted at them I thought I should feed him because there was a lot of fish in with him so he didn’t get much food.

As long as he ate the pellets. If they didn't get eaten or fell to the bottom, those pellets will pollute that little tank quickly. With those large stones, they will just fall to where the Betta can't get at them and will start to get rotten and foul the water. Can feed 2-3 small pellets twice a day (once in the morning then again at night) so 5-6 pellets maximum a day.

That's great to hear, Dakotah. And thanks to you and your crew for changing the water in our tank and cleaning the gravel up. The tank has never looked so good in all the years I have had a tank in that room........and that's been 20 years. Yikes!

Hey guy wut if the top of your tank looks oily need to know That's just because the water up top is standing still... need to get the water moving to get rid of it. Problem is Betta's don't really like bubblers or strong flow and prefer calm water. Betta doesn't care about the film at the top as long as the water is clean.
