Hope she won't notice for a while, and by than I have no idea what happened! LOL The stand is going to take longer to build than I thought. Today is my son's birthday (Matt is 17 today) and apparently we have the whole day planned for celebration! Why am I the last one to find out things like this? Oh yeah, I was building an aquarium rack when they were planning the activities. LOL!

Thanks guys you are so helpful! That would not draw her attention to the area at all! I’ll take my chances that she won’t notice it until I can say it’s been there already.....😇 Anyway, here is today’s progress.... And the left over wood from the old stand! Still need to add a few cross pieces of 2x4’s and the covering, but getting there! I’ll be painting the tank tomorrow at my sister in law’s (I got birds and they would die from the fumes!) and after that the assembly of the river manifold!

Here is what I managed to do today! The manifold is glued together on all the connections, except the risers for the power heads and the intakes! I figured these need to be cleaned out once in a while! As the whole manifold will be under the substrate, I did not bother to do a clean glueing job! I almost forgot to tell you about the American made PVC pipe and the Canadian made PVC pipe! Both has 3/4” outside diameter, however the US made has a lot thinner wall! This was very unexpected, but ended up working on my favour since the extension for the power head fit perfectly into the US made PVC pipe!

I made a 4” riser for the MJ 400 and a 6” riser for the MJ 600. My thinking behind this is that the “lower” current in nature is not as strong since it is broken up by obstacles! In the aquarium, even if you utilize obstacles, the current would just change direction and bounce off the glass back behind the obstacle! I also added an air intake to the MJ 400 in hopes of helping with the oxygen content of the water! Also the more powerful pump being closer to the surface should create quite a bit of oxygen exchange! The intakes still need to be drilled, however I did not have the time to drill 50 holes on each intake! Full tank shot...

I also started to cover up the stand with the reclaimed wood! My in laws still have my tools, so most of this is done by hand saw! The thing is, the better I get with the cuts the more I think about actually building things with all hand tools! What an idea... I don’t think I would actually do it, but that would be something!!! I’m getting off topic here! I actually started reclaiming wood from my old saltwater tank stand to get ahead with the current project! Tomorrow I need to go and get a few full length pieces to be able to finish the stand! Things are going along well! I think in about two weeks, I will be able to start the hardscaping of this tank!
