Looks awesome Gabe!
Just imagine native darters in there. That would be an easy win at CAOAC's biotope competition.

Today I got home late from work, so like I thought I was not able to work on the tank! However I did take a crappy picture of all the driftwood that I have for this tank so far! They are fairly small pieces, however they are all unique!

Looking good Gabe can't wait to see it up and running. Keep the pics coming Thank you Keith! The running part is so far away yet, I can’t even imagine it yet! Still have to test the tank, the power heads, adjust flow..... the list is endless it seems!

Well I did not do much today either! All I did is drilled two intakes with different patterns to see what will create the optimal flow! I am planning on testing this by “plugging” one of the intakes and using both power heads, see which patterns create more flow! Than I can decide which one to use! One has holes strait through, the other on a spiral fashion! The idea behind the spiral one is the lift tubes for the Hamburg matten filter! The air holes are spiral to get better flow! Not sure if this will work the same, but it worths to try!

So I did a bit more work today on the stand, and put the tanks on it! Also got a couple of LED lights for the river tank! The lights are angled because of reflection of the glass top! So far so good! However I ran into a problem today! The lumber I am using to cover the stand is not available in the winter! Looks like I have a bit of a waiting before I can finish this project!

Okay, so I worked on the tank last weekend! I had a few different kinds of substrate at home. So I did an experimental hardscape. Turned out I really liked the way it turned out! I ended up filling the tank! Tossed in a few clippings of plants and waited to notice something I desperately need to rearrange! Well that did not happen! A few days ago I noticed that the African water fern isn’t doing well, and I wanted to take a closer look! Mind you this tank is running only 3 or 4 days at this time! Well I stick my hand in there to grab the plant and got a surprise! The temperature of the tank was like bath water! Damn this supposed to be a cold water tank! I put a thermostat in there and the temperature was an astonishing 85F!!!! Well this was a great mystery to me since there was no heater in the tank, and the room is only heated to 76 F at the most! I also took the temperature of the water in the tank right bellow the river tank, it was 72F. This is a lot smaller tank, so the water should warm up a lot faster! Like I said it was a great mystery! I was wrecking my brains for two days to see what could heat the water. Well today I was doing a water change and it dawned on me! I restricted the flow to the power heads by only drilling a few holes in the intake. Well I’m not 100% sure yet but I’m thinking that the power heads were warming up the water in the tank! So today after the water change I drilled more holes in the intakes! Probably it will take a while for the water to cool off, but hopefully it will!
