Didn't have a chance to stop by the school this week. Did you have a chance to set up the new filter ? Are all the new fish doing o.k. I know you have your hand very full. Update us when you get a chance.

Ahhhh. Saturday morning. Yes, the students set up the filter this week in fact because last week was nutty. It's humming along so quietly! All of the fish seem to be doing very well. Swimming around the tank in their little schools and, according to the students, always looking hungry. Hmmm. Sounds just like them! Our "Aqua Techs" feed the fish twice a day, and when other kids beg to be the one to do it, they let them have a turn. The "Flora Techs" aren't doing such a great job. They hadn't been watering our class plants and the beautiful plant next to the tank in the photos above has died. Grrrr. Well, part of life in a classroom and the lessons that come from mistakes. The students and I snap photos and make comments about the tank every once in a while on our Twitter account twitter.com/7WPacersYou can see one they posted Nov 13 although the picture is not great, the point is they were excited enough to post to Twitter about the new filter. Hope everyone here is doing well also and that your tanks are bring you as much joy as ours is.

Hello - There is some green algae growing along the bottom gravel in our tank. What would be the best thing to do about it?

Probably has to do with the new location of the tank near the windows . I will drop off an algae clean up crew next week . A couple of bristlenose pleco's will make short work of it . Also the students will get a kick out of their appearance .

Should we keep the curtains closed behind the tank?

I would close it on the weekends . The bristlenose pleco's will take care of the problem for you.

Should we keep the curtains closed behind the tank? Don`t listen to Les I would leave them open and put a Large table outside you could then start a new class project teaching the kids about Windsors feral cat problems. Kids could keep track of the cats on a chart and make cat cutouts for each cat and colour them to match the cats giving them each a name every week they could report how many new cats have showed up to watch the fish. If by chance a fish died you could place it on the table and the kids could watch a mini recreation of what happen`s every day in the Savanna safely behind 2 panes of glass. Depending how far you want to go with this if you put any leftovers the kids may have from lunch out on the table you could take this up a step and turn it into health class watching the females get large and round. The kids will be asking by name why certain cats have stopped coming to watch the fish see if they make the connection only the fat ones are missing. Now in about 6 weeks the kids will be all excited when the missing cat is back with 7 kitten`s now this might confuse some at first why Garfield and Hobbs got fat and came back with kittens. But you have 2 choices here tell them the truth and rename the cats with girl names or tell them about adoption. I agree with Les close the curtains

gtomike - Wish you could take my class over for a couple weeks. They'd love it. Festive fishies! - kids are decorating again... That would be something you would regret though the kids would miss me when you came back. It might be hard to believe but I was the class clown from kindergarten to grade 12 every report card in grade school had comments about me disturbing others and in my high school year book for Probable Occupation:Dog Trainer training dogs to disobey. It didn`t stop there and continued for more than 30 years in the work force and as you may notice I haven`t really changed much to this day in that area.

You were the class clown Mike? I would have never guessed it haha. I agree the kids would probably love you by the end but I don't know how much of the "required" curriculum they would actually learn haha.

Dropped off around 10 Amano Shrimp to help keep the algae in check. The students got a kick out of them last year so I doubled the number for double the fun.....
